TRUNK OR TREAT
Our annual Trunk or Treat will be on October 29th from 5-7 pm. Bring your car or truck, decorate it, and enjoy seeing all of our children dressed in their costumes as you pass out treats. Prizes for best decorations in several categories will be awarded. There is a sign up sheet in the Narthex to let us know you will be decorating a vehicle.
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY
Cornerstone UMC will be observing All Saints Sunday on November 5th. Worshipers are invited to bring fresh cut flowers in memory of a loved one. The flowers will be received at the beginning of the service. After you receive Holy Communion, you will have an opportunity to pick up a flower bulb to remind you of the NEW life found in Christ Jesus.
During the month of November, we will be receiving orders for Rada Cutlery. Catalogs and order forms will be available in the Narthex, and you can browse their website (www.radacutlery.com) to learn more about their American made products that carry a lifetime warranty. Orders are shipped quickly in time for the Christmas season. Profits from this fundraiser will go toward new chairs in the sanctuary.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Has sent more than 135 million shoeboxes to children in more than 150 countries since Samaritan’s Purse started the ministry in 1993. For many boys and girls, these boxes are the only gifts they have ever been given. Each child receives a booklet, The Greatest Gift of All, written in their language. Please consider packing a shoebox this year! Brochures and shoeboxes are located in the narthex. We collected 324 boxes last year and our goal this year is 350! Please help us reach our goal! The last day to bring in your shoebox is Nov. 12. For more information, contact Katie Brown- email@example.com or visit https://www.samaritanspurse.org.
This year our church is going to be a relay center for Operation Christmas Child. This means the community will bring their shoeboxes to Cornerstone on collection week- Nov.13-20. We will need volunteers to help welcome people and to pack the shoeboxes into bigger boxes. We will also need people to deliver the boxes to Unity Baptist Church (via truck, trailer, van) in Newnan. Please consider volunteering. Katie Brown will be have a signup sheet for volunteers in the narthex or you can signup online at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b4cafaf2ea0fd0-relay1. Children are welcome to volunteer too! For more information, contact Katie Brown- firstname.lastname@example.org or 678-876-6670.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS
Help children’s ministry fill shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse! On November 19 elementary age children (K-5) will spend part of the Sunday school hour filling shoe boxes for Samaritan’s Purse. Children may bring small items to Sunday school or place them in the bin in the narthex by November 19. Suitable items include small toys (matchbox cars, stuffed animal, puzzle, jump rope, etc), school supplies, accessories such as socks, and non-liquid hygiene items. We packed 50 boxes last year and our goal this year is 60. Please help us meet our goal! If you like to make a monetary donation for our packing party, please note “shoebox ministry” in the “for” line of your check. This money would be used to cover shipping costs or purchase additional supplies. For more information, email Katie Brown at email@example.com or call 678-876-6670.

On October 29th, we will celebrate the work of the laity. This year you can nominate someone to receive a “Golden Wesley Award” for his/her service the church and community. Submission forms are available at the Welcome Center and need to be submitted by Monday, Oct. 23rd!
GREETERS AND MONITORS VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!!!
We need happy and friendly people to volunteer as greeters. These are the people that visitors see first Come join us and be a part of this very important ministry. We are trying to gather enough volunteers so they are scheduled only once a month and the serve on same week in the month if possible. The current sixteen vacancies leave us about 27% short. Some of those vacancies are filled by current volunteers that double up on their schedule. Thanks to those that do, however with no relief in sight they can become discouraged. We need FORTY-EIGHT volunteers to cover the first four Sundays of each month and TWELVE volunteers to cover the fifth Sundays for a total of SIXTY. Please consider serving in these important areas for a little more than one hour per month.
Just call Floyd Shaw at 678 423 6092 or email Janet Pouelsen the Church Secretary firstname.lastname@example.org to start volunteering.
SUPPORT OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT – On Sunday, October 29th our children will lead the church in supporting our community’s law enforcement. We want to show our appreciation and love for our police officers and other law enforcement who serve and protect us each and every day. The children are asking that all church members bring food in a disposable dish to church with them on Sunday, October 29th. It could be a favorite dish or meal, cookies, sandwiches, homemade sweet tea, whatever you want to bring! The children will collect the food in the Narthex, and there will also be a drop off cart by the office door. We will make cards during Sunday School hour, and then they will head out into the community to deliver the food and cards to law enforcement throughout the county. If children are attending the 11:00 service, they can deliver food after they attend that service as long as they let us know, and we’ll set aside food for one of the locations. Adults and children can drop off cards in the Narthex that morning as well. Please join us! Contact Ann Warren at email@example.com with any questions.

CHURCH- WE SOMETIMES ARE GIVEN OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP OUT OUR COMMUNITY IN MANY WAYS. WE PUT THESE GROUPS OUT TO YOU, KNOWING THAT NOT EVERYONE IS MOVED TO HELP IN EVERY CAUSE, BUT THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF CORNERSTONE, WE OFFER THESE CHANCES AND KNOW YOU WILL PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER THE ONES THAT GOD PUTS ON YOUR HEART!
Bloom Our Youth provides foster care services to children from all across Georgia at our Fayetteville office. While you may have seen the flyers around church with the tear off tabs for those interested in fostering children, what isn’t as well known is that we have the Bloom Closet on the other half of our building. The Bloom Closet is an area set up in a true boutique fashion. Foster children from all across the state come with their foster parents to shop for clothes, shoes, socks, underwear, books, toys, toiletries, baby wipes, diapers and pull ups, school supplies and any other essentials they need to feel the best they can while in care. Everything we offer is given to us on a donation basis and we give EVERYTHING to our children free of charge! We are always in need of gently used items (except for some items that need to be new), but there are certain “drives” that churches, social groups, and Scout troops do that help us immensely and that don’t break the bank, so to speak. Our sock and underwear resources are always low, as are baby wipes, diapers, pull ups and toiletries. If we can get our Sunday School classes or the preschool to host a drive for the items of their choosing, it would make an immense difference in the lives of these children. A $1 or $2 bottle of shampoo, soap or toothpaste may not seem like a lot to us, but for a child coming into the closet and getting their own personal care item for the first time ever, you might as well have spent a million dollars. I would be happy to deliver it for you, or host a group of church members who just want to come and do a tour of our Closet so you can see what I’m talking about. It is worth the trip!
Thank you for your consideration of taking on this project. Please let me know if you have any questions. Shannon Hoy, 678-446-4436.
Financial Report Through September 30, 2017
Collections – $537,562
Expenses – $556,785
SHORTFALL $ 19,223
Through the first 3 quarters of 2017 we are operating at the deficit shown above. We are in a better position than we were at the same point in 2016, but obviously not where we would like to be.
However, Cornerstone has still been able to accomplish great things this year, and we still have 3 months to go! We thank everyone who has given so graciously this year and challenge the entire congregation
to work together to allow us to finish the year financially on a positive note.
