LENTEN SERVICES

This week’s Lenten Service and lunch will be at Newnan First Baptist Church. Service begins at noon with lunch following.

 

MARCH BOOK CLUB

The Book Club will meet Thursday, March 1, and the selection this month will be “The Screwtape Letters” by C. S. Lewis. This is C.S. Lewis’s most popular non-Narnia novel and is a delicious, perceptive treatise on the weaknesses of human nature.

 

CORNERSTONE KIDS PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN

Cornerstone Kids Preschool offers half day Christian preschool classes for children ages 1 through kindergarten.  Registration for the 2018-2019 school year will open to all church members on Wednesday, March 7 at 9:30 a.m. in the Celebration Room.  Registration will open to the public on Thursday, March 8 and remain ongoing until all classes are full.

 CHICK-FIL-A SPIRIT NIGHT

Coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 27th from 5 to 8 pm is our first Chick-fil-A spirit night. Cornerstone always is so supportive of these events and we want you to know we notice and appreciate your caring. These nights are a wonderful night for fun and fellowship. Please join us on this date and remember to mention Cornerstone Kids if you go inside or through the drive thru.  Thank you!

YOUTH NEWS

Confirmation Class – It is not too late to be a part of the 2018 Confirmation Session. They meet on Wednesday nights at 6 pm in the Youth Room. Come and be a part of this class, Bobby can catch you up.

WINTER JAM – Sign up today for Winter Jam. The cost is $25 and it gets you into Winter Jam early and a free t-shirt. Tickets are limited so contact Bobby as soon as you can.

THE EDGE  A Junior High and  Confirmation Retreat, and is March 9-11 at Camp Kaleo in Forsyth, Ga. They will meet up with Forrest Hills UMC, Isle of Hope UMC,  and Tifton First UMC for a fun filled action packed weekend topped off with great worship and fellowship time.

Cornerstone Youth Sunday Dinners

Please help feed the Youth during their FUEL program on Sunday nights!  The Youth meet at 6:00 on Sundays for food and fellowship and then have worship and small group time.  Individuals or groups can prepare a meal or make a donation for a purchased meal.  Questions – contact the Director of Student Ministries, Bobby Totten, at btotten@cornerstoneumc.com or Cindy Schnable at cschnable@bellsouth.net. EARLY RESPONSE TEAM TRAINING

Cornerstone UMC will be offering an Early Response Team (ERT) training course on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018.  The class is essential for church groups who feel called to assist victims of natural disasters.  The class will begin at 8:30 am and conclude around 4:30 pm.  The certification is good for three (3) years.   Registration fee is $10 which includes materials, snacks, and lunch.  Please inform us of any special dietary needs.  Please reserve your space by contacting Mr. Bill Pound [(678) 467-7121 or billpound@bellsouth.net  before Tuesday, February 27th, 2018.

HEARTSAVER CPR/FIRST AID CLASS:   Linda Dickerson an American Heart Association CPR/FIRST AID instructor will conduct a  class on SATURDAY, MARCH 3.  Class will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Room 112.  The morning session will be FIRST AID, we will break for lunch and the afternoon class will be CPR.   Cost for class is:  $37.00 (this includes the AHA certification card, lunch and AHA course book.  This course is especially good for those who have attended the ERT training or who are planning on taking an ERT class.  The class is limited to 12 participants.  To register, call the church office at 770-304-9397.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS CPR CLASS:  This class will also be taught by Linda Dickerson.  This class is designed for anyone interested in learning CPR for Adults, Children and Infants and do not need to be “certified”.   The cost for the class is $5.00. The class will be conducted on Sunday, March 4 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Room 112.  AND  Monday, March 5 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Room 112.  Each class is limited to 12 participants.  To register, call the church office at 770-304-9397.

First Red Bird Mission Trip meeting.

On Sunday February 25th at 2PM there will be a meeting in the church for all who have indicated they would go or are interested in more information on the April 1-7, 2018 (Spring Break week) Red Bird Mission trip in Kentucky.

We are interested in more youth (age 13 and up) to go on this Mission Trip to help be the “Hands and Feet of Christ” for folks in the poor Appalachia country of Kentucky.  The United Methodist Church has a large

Mission center there and Work Camp to help folks in need.  The cost is $375 per person and the mission’s Committee has funds in their budget plus money donated by church members to help offset some costs for youth or when more than one family member is going.

Youth, adults please come to this meeting to get more information and packets which contain information on Red Bird and medical forms.

Also, any church member who is willing to help fund (partial or all) of a youth’s fee or assist a family of more than one going, please talk with Dick Shaffer.

In previous years church members have helped fund some who otherwise could not afford to go.

LENTEN SERVICES

Cornerstone will host the service and lunch on Wednesday, February 21st.  We need volunteers to help set up and serve at the luncheon. We are setting up on Tuesday, Feb. 20 beginning at 10 am, and final preperations on Wednesday, Feb. 21 beginning also at 10 an.  Please email the office to let us know you can help. cstoneoffice@numail.org

HOMELESS OFFERING 2018

This Sunday, Feb. 18 we will taking our annual offering for the North Georgia United Methodist Housing and Homeless Council.  This council provides capital and operational grants to organizations throughout the North Georgia Conference who are serving our brothers and sisters in need. This offering might include housing programs, food pantries and other feeding programs in communities large and small. 100% of this offering goes to ministries serving our neighbors.
