Happenings for January 11

Good news for the week—

As 2018 ended we did not mention one couple that has served our church and community for over 10 years. Bill and Janice Anglin have each year volunteered to get the names from the Department of Family and Children Services to put on our Angle Tree. They then make the tags with all the information on it, set up the tree, keep track of all the tags taken, and if there are any tags still on the tree they buy gifts for those folks themselves. After all the gifts are returned they then deliver all the packages to the person in charge in downtown Newnan. We are so blessed to have these folks continue to do this great mission and we thank them so very much.

We are looking forward to a good meeting Saturday at 8:00 AM.  We had a strong Breakfast with Santa in December and want to review where we donate the profits.  We are also looking to elect a new slate of officers for the coming year.  Finally, we have some new ideas for events in 2019 and need your feedback! All men are welcome.

Join us on Sunday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 for youth worship, small group time, dinner, and fun!  We will meet in room 112 for dinner at 6:00 then move upstairs to the Youth Room.  We would appreciate any help with dinners for the Youth.  Please sign up here to provide a meal or if you would prefer to make a donation, please contact Andy at andy@cornerstoneumc.com or Cindy Schnable at cschnable@bellsouth.net.  Thank you very much!  Cornerstone Youth Sunday Dinners Jan – May 2019

LET’S MAKE SOME SOUP FOR THE HOMELESS IN ATLANTA: The Mission Committee invites Youth and Adults to travel to Trinity UMC on Sunday, January 27th to serve lunch to the homeless.  We will be leaving the church at 10:00 a.m. and returning to the church around 4:00 p.m . Please make the soup, and return it to the church refrigerator any time prior to Sunday January 27th.

COOKIES. We also need store-bought PACKAGED cookies(Chips Ahoy, Chips Deluxe, etc.). If you are bringing cookies, please bring them by Sunday, January 20th (so we have time to purchase any additional ones we might need)

TRINITY SOUP KITCHEN – CLOTHING NEEDS: In addition to serving lunch at Trinity UMC in Atlanta, we will also be bringing men’s new underwear and socks as well as gently used coats and hoodies. Whatever you can donate will be appreciated! Please place all items in the bin in the Narthex by no later than 9:00am on Sunday, January 27th.

We are in need of a volunteer to head up and organize a Safety Team. This includes the hall monitors and office security coverage. Please email the office if this is an area you can help us with.  cstoneoffice@numail.org

It’s never too early to collect for Operation Christmas Child!  Our church will take donations with a different item each month. For the month of January, we will collect coloring books. The donations will be used at the packing party in November. There is a collection basket located in the narthex. Any questions, please contact Katie Brown at 678-876-6670 or mkbrown864@gmail.com.

MISS NELLE’S BIBLE STUDY STARTING NEW BOOK ON FEBRUARY 3RD  The ladies’ Bible Study on Wednesday mornings will begin a new study with the book The Power of a Woman’s Words by Sharon Jaynes. Book description: a woman’s words can be used for good or evil.  By choosing words that build instead of destroy, you can encourage your spouse, children, friends, coworkers, and family.  Using examples from the Bible, Sharon Jaynes shows how women influenced those around them – some positively and others negatively. Our study group meets on Wednesdays from 10:00 am – 12:00 and some of us go out to lunch afterward.  Contact Cindy Schnable at cschnable@bellsouth.net for more information.

Will begin on Tuesday, January 15th at 10:30am and Wednesday, January 16th at 6:30pm. Books are available for purchase from the church office.

We are excited and looking forward to new adventures with our Children’s Ministry in 2019! We are always looking for volunteers to help make our Children’s Ministry a success. Please reach out to Dianna at diannathompkins@yahoo.com if you would like more information on our ministry

Our Altar Rail offering for this quarter will go to Backpack Buddies of Georgia. Many children in our county are dependent on the “Free and Reduced” lunch program and have very little to eat over the weekends and holidays. Backpack Buddies is a community-driven effort to supply eligible children with nutritious, child-friendly, self-serve food every weekend.
