Happenings for March 15

REDBIRD MISSION TRIP

The Red Bird Mission team leaves early during the 9am Sunday March 31st Service and returns April 6th.  Our church has always contributed needed items for that community for the team to take with them.

First : “Box Tops for Education”.  These are collected and used to get School Buses and work vans.  There is a list attached to the Red Bird Bulletin Board that is located in the office hallway next to the Janitor’s room and near Pastor Scott’s office.  There are three plastic bins and a 10×13 envelope to place whatever you can offer.  Many of these Box Tops come from common household items which you may already have in your home or could help Red Bird by picking several of these common used product at the store this week and bring them to the church and drop them into the envelope or plastic trays by March 30th.  Box Tops for Education can be found on baking (Betty Crocker and Bisquick), Cereals, Food storage, Kleenex and “Scott” tissue/towels to name a few.  Please look at the list on the bulletin board for others.

Second:  Red Bird Mission is in the (cold) mountains of SE Kentucky and a poverty area.  There is a thrift store for those folks to get much needed items at low or no cost;  Items we can take which are needed:  Lightly used or new Cold/warm weather jackets/coats, casual shirts and pants and work clothing, shoes, socks, underwear, diapers, etc.  All of the underwear, diapers, socks must be in their original plastic packaging and not opened.

Any of the items above can be brought to the church every day, to include March 31st morning.  Please bring the clothing items to the back of the Narthex and all Box top for Education clippings to the Red Bird Bulletin Board containers.

Thank you for your much needed support for Red Bird Mission.

YOUTH NEWS

Several youth in our church are going on the mission trip to Redbird

during Spring break. So to help pay the cost of their trips the youth will be having a “Spaghetti Luncheon” on Sunday, March 24, at noon. There is a suggested donation of $6 a plate and in order to get an estimate on how much spaghetti to make they are asking that you fill out the form that is inside your bulletin and drop it in the offering plate. Let’s encourage our youth to participate in the mission field by supporting this event.

O’Rourke Ministries Spring Shoes for the Eastgate Children

Please take a name card from the O’Rourke Ministries School House in the Narthex, purchase a pair of lace-up shoes and bring them to the church, together with the name card by March 31, 2019.  Many of the children at Eastgate do not have appropriate shoes for physical education classes at school.  The shoes will be very much appreciated.  Please call Brandon Steiper 678-900-9259 or Rhonda O’Rourke 770-328-9587 with any questions.

PRESCHOOL NEWS

We will be collecting funds for our Spring Mission Project to raise money for Cure Sanfilippo Foundation. A child at our preschool was diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome.  All money collected will be donated directly to www.curesfforg.  You can make a donation by putting a check in the offering plates on Sunday, made out to Cornerstone Kids. In addition to your gifts, please support this member of our CKPK family in your prayers.

Sanfilippo Syndrome is a fatal brain disease in children.  It affects only 1 in 70,000 children. It’s rapidly degenerative and takes away a child’s mind and body.  It’s often likened to a ‘Childhood Alzheimer’s’ due to the severe dementia that occurs.  Currently, there is no proven treatment or cure.  For more information on Sanfilippo, the Foundation, and the families fighting for a cure, visit www.curesff.org

CHICK-FIL-A Many thanks to our church and preschool families for supporting spirit night at Chick-fil-A in February. We raised $396 plus received a $100 donation!

Operation Christmas Child:

It’s never too early to collect for Operation Christmas Child!  Our church will take donations with a different item each month. For the month of March, we will collect accessories such as hair bows, sunglasses, watches, jewelry, etc.. The donations will be used at the packing party in November. There is a collection basket located in the narthex. Any questions, please contact Katie Brown at 678-876-6670 or mkbrown864@gmail.com.

Please join us on March 30 at 10:00 in the sanctuary to hear a shoebox recipient, Livia Young. Livia lived in a Romanian orphanage and received a shoebox at 12 years old. Come hear how God used Operation Christmas Child in her life! We will also have OCC information, materials, refreshments and door prizes.
