Financial Report Thru October 31, 2017:
Collections – $601,367
Expenses – $620,316
SHORTFALL -$ 18,949
We slipped a bit during the month of October but are still in a position to finish the year on a positive note. Please remember Cornerstone as you plan your year-end giving. So many good things have happened this year; we’ve donated over $7,200 to UMCOR, primarily for hurricane relief; our mortgage will drop below $500,000 by the end of the year; and we have helped One Roof, our local mission, by contributing over $4,800 so far. All of these things are made possible by your gifts to Cornerstone. Together we can do great things! As always, thanks for supporting Cornerstone and our ministries! And please consider making a extra contribution during December to help position us to start 2018 on a good financial foundation.
One Roof Can-A-Thon Success; Now needs Help:
This year’s Newnan goal of 200,000 can and box food items and cash equivalent was a tremendous success and 219,000 was received (from schools, many different organizations and the public) for the Coweta County Food Bank. But with this success One Roof needs help organizing and moving the items from the pallet/crates to the shelving units. One Roof is open daily from 10am – 4pm. The One Roof store needs many items (clothes, library items, dishes, furniture, books and things for kids) for sale. They have some nice/new and useable items for sale and the money raised from the sales helps fund One Roof’s support of the community. Church members are asked to go out to One Roof and volunteer at this busy time. For more information contact Dick Shaffer, 770-253-2865 (H) 404-219-4053 (C)
GOOD NEWS FORM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES!!
Thanks to the financial gifts and fundraisers, we have raised nearly the complete costs of new chairs for our sanctuary. Earlier last week, the Board of Trustees placed an order for 312 chairs to be delivered by Easter. If you would like to contribute to the chair fund, we are still accepting donations. Again, “Thank YOU” for your support of this project!!
We are currently asking for volunteers to help start up our Children’s Church during the 9am service. If you are interested please see or email Dianna at email@example.com
COME JOIN OUR PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
This important ministry knits prayer shawls and distributes them to CUMC members during times of illness and hospital stays. They can use your help. Contact Jean Barrow at 404-664-1083 if you would like to donate or come join them to knit on Friday morning, 9:30 at Chick-Fil-A at Thomas Crossroads.
YEAR END GIVING
As we enter the Christmas season and look toward the New Year, now is a perfect time to remember Cornerstone in your year-end giving plans. In order for year-end contributions to be included on your 2017 contribution statement, they must be received in the church office by Sunday, December 31. Or you can take advantage of our online giving, which will allow you to make contributions up until midnight on New Year’s Eve and still have them included for 2017.
EARLY RESPONSE TEAM TRAINING
Cornerstone UMC will be offering an Early Response Team (ERT) training course on Saturday, January 20th, 2018. The class is essential for church groups who feel called to assist victims of natural disasters. The class will begin at 8:30am and conclude around 3:30pm. The certification is good for three (3) years. If you need to renew your certification, you are welcomed to join us from 12:30pm until the end of the class. Registration fee is $25 which includes materials, snacks, and lunch. Please inform us of any special dietary needs. Please reserve your space by contacting Mr. Bill Pound [(678) 467-7121 or billpound@bellsouthnet] before Tuesday, January 16th, 2018.
It is the season we celebrate the Greatest Gift, the birth of our Savior. Let us share that blessing with support for those in our community without the gift of plenty through gifts of non-perishable food and financial donations. Items may be placed in the Narthex from December 24th through January 1st. The donations will go to the food pantry, One Roof. Please, put cash donations in sealed envelopes. And, donate what the Spirit directs.
